Virgile Laguin's second video for Brigade Apache, Insomnia is the perfect fusion of punk culture and the dancefloor. This video is dark, rough, edgy and tense, like the track itself, mixing geometric and figurative shapes with the roaring BPMs of this hypnotic Brigade Apache track.

RRtL seeks to explore new possibilities for visual listening by commissioning collaborations between musicians and motion or graphic designers. Alongside his work as a graphic designer, Virgile Laguin is developing unique visual research inspired by the post-apocalyptic atmosphere of the port wastelands of Le Havre. His universe fits in perfectly with the saturated post-punk musical layers of Brigade Apache's machines.

For this first commission, she confronts her creation with the different natures of screens which today convey the culture of the music video. Sensitive to the free and sci-fi dimension of the album "Firefly", she delivers a proposal that is at once soft, syncopated and lush, whose playdoh textures perfectly match the post-punk and retro-futuristic universe of Apache Brigade.

A likely nod to Rafaël Rozendaal's installation Sleepmode: The Art of the Screensaver (2017), this malleable visual object is destined to become the new screensaver: Hypnotic, modulable, a delicate and precise amalgam of self-generating materials and pigments tuned to the frequencies of "Firefly in my Hole", it stages its vocation to cross the different broadcasting channels available, in time and space: from the memory of Windows Media PlayerTM to the present of SpotifyTM Canvas. Without any defined reading direction, this protean musicbox follows the jerks of our screens which stretch, rotate and mishandle it. But at its own pace, a surprising slowness that manages - and this is a real feat - to curl up in the same tempo as the nervous music it illustrates and for which it restores a new - visual - form of High Fidelity.

A technicolor mist at the opening which hides well the stroboscopic and nervous editing quickly adopted by Virgile Laguin for this tense track, second extract from the Brigade Apache"s debut album. Glued to the raging BPM of this incredible song, the animation is set on a supercharged synthwave techno softened by a slowed down narrative voice.
